In 2025, Vietnam's major lychee-growing regions, such as Hai Phong and Bac Ninh, are projected to yield 303,000 tons of the fruit, a remarkable 30% increase from 2024.
Thanks to superior quality, Vietnamese lychees are successfully penetrating demanding international markets and major retail chains at premium prices.
A report on the lychee Market for the 2023 – 2028 period by Research and Markets indicates that the global lychee market is experiencing strong growth. It is forecast to expand from $6.73 billion in 2023 to $8.79 billion by 2028, at an annual growth rate of approximately 5.5%.
Globally, Vietnam ranks second, with its lychees now available in over 30 countries and meeting the high standards of top-tier markets like Japan, the US, and the European Union.
The latest data from Vietnam Customs reveals that in the first six months of 2025, the country's lychee export value reached $45.4 million, a staggering 92% increase compared to the same period in 2024. All of the top 10 import markets for Vietnamese lychees increased their purchases, with growth rates ranging from 10% to 2,000%.
In June 2025 alone, lychee export turnover hit $35 million. Of this, exports to China accounted for $27 million, a 3.63-fold increase over June 2024. Exports to demanding markets such as the US, France, the UK, Australia, and Canada also saw increases of two to five times.
A particularly significant achievement this year is the debut of Vietnamese lychees on the shelves of Costco, the largest retail system in the United States, with over 635 stores across the US and Canada.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, Secretary-General of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), this success resulted from a series of dedicated efforts to enhance product quality.
"Many domestic enterprises have built integrated, closed-loop supply chains—from production and cultivation to consumption," said Mr. Nguyen. "They have applied modern harvesting and preservation technologies, which help extend shelf life, maintain freshness, boost productivity, and ensure uniform quality that meets international standards."
In addition, Vietnamese farmers have been strictly adhering to international standards throughout the cultivation, care, and harvesting processes.
