The Ministry of Home Affairs is collecting public opinions on a draft government decree to increase the basic wage for some groups from VND1.49 million ($63) to VND1.8 million ($76) a month from July 1, 2023.

The ministry said wage levels have been in place since July 1, 2019 due to the impact of both domestic and international factors, including Covid-19.

The increase is aimed at helping improve the living conditions of public cadres, officials, and armed forces personnel.

Last year, Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc presented a government plan to allocate VND12.5 trillion ($529 million) to wage reform, including a 20.8 per cent increase to the basic wage of civil servants from VND1.49 million ($63) to VND 1.8 million ($76) from July 1, 2023.
