The Binh Thuan Provincial People’s Council met recently to decide upon important provincial issues, including the Phan Thiet Airport project, with total investment of over VND3.8 trillion ($167.1 million) and implemented in the build-operate-transfer (BOT) form.
This is an important project of great significance for the south-central province’s sustainable development. It will contribute to attracting investment and promoting socio-economic development, especially in tourism, to turn Binh Thuan into a national center for marine sports and services under Decision No. 1772 dated December 18, 2018 from the Prime Minister.
Most delegates at the meeting agreed on the necessity of developing Phan Thiet Airport combined with military airport infrastructure, thus promoting socio-economic development while ensuring national defense and security. However, the project has significant investment and is being built in the BOT form, so it was recommended that specialized agencies pay greater attention to formulation, appraisal, verification, supervision, and other matters to ensure implementation quality, efficiency, and progress.
The meeting also discussed and reviewed improvements to investment policies, adjustments to socio-economic development works, and projects and investment in infrastructure in ethnic minority areas in the 2021-2025 period.
