The Government Office has issued Notice No 418/TB-VPCP, announcing the conclusions of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha at a meeting regarding the investment proposal for the Can Gio International Transshipment Port project in Ho Chi Minh City.
In the notice, Deputy PM Ha emphasized that the investment and construction of the Can Gio International Transshipment Port shall only proceed if it meets national and public interest requirements. Additionally, an investor to be selected for the project must have sufficient capacity and experience in investing, operating, and developing international transshipment ports, and be competitive regionally and internationally.
The notice highlights that the consideration and decision on the investment proposal must not “sacrifice” the environment. It must clearly specify the area and land that needs to be converted from forest use and its impact.
“Since the project is related to Vietnam’s first world biosphere reserve (located in Can Gio district), which holds great value and significance for Ho Chi Minh City and the region, it is necessary to conduct a thorough and comprehensive assessment of its impacts on the environment. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must clearly and specifically state their opinions regarding the environmental impact of the project,” the notice stated, reflecting the Deputy PM’s requirements.
Regarding technology, the solutions to operate the port must be oriented towards modernity, environmental friendliness, and alignment with global development trends. These solutions should be defined according to the overall design and specified for each phase of the project to ensure the most effective operation by the investor.
