Four more component projects of the eastern North-South Expressway opened to traffic in the first four months of this year, adding 221 km to the expressway network and bringing the country's total expressway length to 2,242 km, according to the Ministry of Construction.

The ministry is working toward its goal of fully connecting the nation's expressways from the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang, which borders with China, to the southernmost province of Ca Mau by the end of the year.

At a regular monthly meeting, Minister Tran Hong Minh emphasized the importance of overcoming obstacles in ongoing projects to achieve the 2025 target. He noted that if the necessary hurdles are addressed, Vietnam will have over 3,300 km of expressways by the end of 2025.

To ensure timely progress, the Minister instructed deputy mnisters to prioritize resolving bottlenecks in key projects, including those contributing to the 3,000 km expressway target for 2025, as well as the Long Thanh International Airport. Additionally, the ministry aims to accelerate procedures for the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project, ensuring that construction begins in 2025.

This year, the MoC plans to initiate construction on 19 projects. To date, work has commenced on six key infrastructure projects, including: upgrade and expansion of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1, expansion of the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway section, and connecting route between the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway and the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho Expressway Cho Moi - Bac Kan route, among others.
