Deputy PM calls for faster site clearance in airport construction

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has asked authorities in southern Dong Nai province and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to promptly complete site clearance activities and hand over land for the construction of the first phase of Long Thanh International Airport to begin in the first quarter of 2023.

The government has asked the province and the ACV many times to deal with the problem and contractors have received nearly 2,450 ha of land, or 97 per cent of requirements.

Delays have been caused by slow progress in building resettlement areas and issues surrounding compensation for affected families who lack the necessary papers proving legal ownership of their houses and land.

The Deputy Prime Minister said site clearance must ensure appropriate compensation and support for those affected.

Long Thanh will be built in three phases. In the first phase, one runway with a length of 4,000 meters, taxiways, an apron, and a passenger terminal with auxiliary facilities covering 373,000 sq m will be built to cater to 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo each year.
