Figures from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) show that, in September, Vietnam saw a total of 265 million new downloads of mobile apps, ranking it tenth-highest in the world after India, the US, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Russia, Mexico, Pakistan, and Turkey. The number of new downloads in Vietnam is mainly video games, such as entertainment, action, intelligence, puzzles, adventure, and so on.

At the ongoing fourth session of the 15th National Assembly (NA), Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung made a presentation on the draft Law on Electronic Transactions. To be discussed by the NA, the draft will expand the application of electronic transactions to all activities in life, including the issuance of important licenses on land use and house ownership.

According to Tech Collective, the venture capital (VC) trend in Vietnam will be the driving force in the “Golden Triangle of Startups in Southeast Asia”, which includes Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore. More than $1.4 billion of investment poured into Vietnam’s tech startups in 2021; 1.6-fold more than in 2019. The number of funds investing in startups rose 60 per cent.

The Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) Training Center opened the SHTP Chip Design Center (SCDC) on October 21, which will contribute to taking advantage of opportunities for Vietnam to participate in global value chains for the semiconductor chip industry and at the same time mark a new development phase for SHTP, focusing on creating hi-tech, breakthrough industries.

At the first Vietnam Blockchain Summit 2022, on October 19 and 20, experts said that Vietnam has among the greatest potential in blockchain and is a bright spot in the sector. More than 10 Vietnamese enterprises appear among the world’s top 200 blockchain enterprises, which is a foundation for blockchain projects in the country to continue to develop.

The Ministry of Science and Technology signed a cooperative agreement on October 18 with the Intracom Group to establish a national startup and innovation complex. The focus of the agreement will be on building innovative startups connected to more than ten countries and territories and attracting at least five investment funds and international national incubators each year.
