To mark National Digital Transformation Day on October 10, Ho Chi Minh City is holding an Innovation and Digital Transformation Week from October 8 to 14 and other days during the month.

Though digital transformation has helped wood businesses cut costs by 10 per cent and increase revenue by 10-20 per cent and workplace productivity by more than 20 per cent, the proportion applying digital transformation in production remains low. The Vietnam Internet Association (VIA) puts the rate at just 20 per cent. Three reasons for this are large initial cost, a lack of technological capacity and human resources, and a shortage of professional partners with good consulting capacity and solutions.

After a period of testing at the Phenikaa University in Hanoi, a self-driving car has been tested on public roads in southern Binh Duong province. The project is being implemented by the Becamex Tokyu Co. in cooperation with Phenikaa-X and Nippon Koei Vietnam. Mr. Kusaka Masatoshi from the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City said the project will contribute to Binh Duong implementing its smart city model.

In planning to build a smart city and in implementing the “Digital transformation in Da Nang to 2025 and orientation to 2030” project, central Da Nang city has effectively deployed an application to manage and monitor ambulance journeys. The city will use a similar application for fire trucks and garbage trucks in the future.

Decree No. 53 detailing a number of articles in the Law on Cybersecurity, including regulations on types of internet data that must be stored in Vietnam, took effect on October 1. Of note, user data is to be stored under the regulations.

The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced recently that VNPT’s face detection and recognition technology (VNPT FaceID) is in the Top 15 in the world in the KIOSK category.
