The People's Committee of Dong Nai province in southern Vietnam has requested the provincial Department of Construction to submit in September the general master plan for Long Thanh urban area until 2045.

Long Thanh urban area is envisioned as an urban hub closely linked with Long Thanh Airport, serving as a national gateway to the international community. Simultaneously, it will become a logistics service center supporting Long Thanh Airport; a logistics, warehousing, multi-industry, industrial, and high-tech center for the country's Southeast region.

Furthermore, Long Thanh urban area will be a key intermodal transport hub and a crucial development pole for the South, the Southeast region, and Dong Nai province. It is also an important area for national defense and security in the Southeast region and the country as a whole.

In February 2024, the Prime Minister approved the task of the general master planning for Long Thanh urban area until 2045.

Accordingly, the planning scope covers the entire administrative boundary of the former Long Thanh district, with a total natural area of over 430 sq.km. The urban population size is projected to be around 340,000 people by 2030 and then 480,000 – 500,000 people by 2045.

Regarding the planning objectives, the general master plan for Long Thanh urban area until 2045 aims to effectively utilize natural conditions, unique ecosystems, and the advantages of Long Thanh International Airport, as well as national and regional technical infrastructure systems within the area. This is to develop appropriate urban spaces and functional zones to enhance land use efficiency.
