Representing the Duy Tan Plastics Manufacturing Corporation, Mr. Virat Wongvarodom, Senior Executive Vice President, emphasized the strategic significance of the project in enhancing production capacity, accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies and automation, and developing a more centralized, integrated, and intelligent manufacturing system, thereby improving operational efficiency and strengthening the company’s competitiveness. Notably, the project is being launched as Duy Tan celebrates its 39th anniversary (October 15, 1987 - October 15, 2026) and looks ahead to its 40th anniversary in 2027, marking another significant milestone in the company’s journey toward sustainable development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Thanh Phong, Secretary of the Duc Hoa Commune Party Committee, commended Duy Tan’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing operations and expressed his expectation that the project would contribute to industrial development, create additional employment opportunities, and support local economic growth.

Alongside its investment activities, Duy Tan presented a contribution of VND200 million ($7,750) to the Social Welfare Fund of Duc Hoa Commune, to support disadvantaged members of the local community. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to community engagement and integrating social responsibility into its business development.

Expanding capacity and advancing smart manufacturing

With an estimated investment of VND900 billion ($35 million), the Duy Tan Long An Factory expansion project comprises three main components: the IM3 Injection Molding Facility (Injection Molding 3), an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), and a new canteen and parking lot for employees. Together, these components will have a total construction footprint of nearly 25,000 sq m, helping increase production capacity, modernize warehouse operations, and improve employee facilities.

The IM3 facility will have a designed production capacity of 30,000 tons per year. It is expected to manufacture a wide range of plastic packaging products, including caps, closures, bottles, jars, and other packaging solutions serving the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, household chemical, and industrial sectors.

A key highlight of the IM3 facility is the integration of advanced automation solutions, including a centralized raw material feeding system, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for material handling, automated palletizing systems, and AI-powered cameras for product defect detection. Internet of Things (IoT) technology will enable real-time equipment connectivity and monitoring, contributing to higher productivity, improved quality control, and greater operational efficiency. Construction of the facility is scheduled from October 2026 to September 2027.

In parallel, the ASRS warehouse will provide a storage capacity of 15,000 pallet positions, utilizing automated storage and retrieval technologies. The system will integrate Warehouse Management and Warehouse Control Systems (WMS/WCS) with SAP ERP, enabling real-time inventory monitoring, optimized storage utilization, and improved warehouse efficiency. Trial operations are expected to begin in October 2027.

The project also includes a new employee canteen and parking lot to improve workplace amenities and employee welfare. The expansion will also support Duy Tan’s long-term plan to gradually relocate manufacturing activities from its existing facilities in Ho Chi Minh City to the Duy Tan Long An Factory, in line with the company’s manufacturing network optimization strategy.

Strategic milestone toward Duy Tan’s 40th anniversary

The Duy Tan Long An Factory expansion is part of the company’s broader manufacturing restructuring roadmap, aimed at consolidating resources, optimizing operations, and strengthening supply capabilities. The integrated investment in modern production facilities and automated warehousing will lay the foundation for developing the factory into a key manufacturing and distribution hub, enhancing its ability to fulfill large-scale orders, streamline supply chain operations, and expand its presence in domestic and international markets.

Established in 2017, the Duy Tan Long An Factory is currently Duy Tan’s largest manufacturing facility, covering more than 18 ha at the Tan Do Industrial Park. The factory is equipped with modern machinery and equipment, including PET production lines, injection molding and blow molding facilities, as well as extensive warehousing infrastructure. With a workforce of over 2,300 employees, the facility serves both domestic and export markets.

As part of its commitment to sustainable manufacturing, the factory has installed a rooftop solar power system to harness renewable energy, helping reduce reliance on grid electricity and optimizing energy consumption in its operations. In addition, the factory complies with international standards, including ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000, and has been verified by Bureau Veritas as meeting supply chain security requirements under the CTPAT framework, further strengthening its credibility and ability to collaborate with international customers and partners.

Since becoming part of SCG Packaging (SCGP) in 2021, Duy Tan has continued to strengthen its management capabilities, accelerate technology adoption, and enhance competitiveness. Building on this foundation, the factory expansion represents a significant step in the company’s long-term investment strategy and its vision to become one of ASEAN’s leading suppliers of rigid plastic packaging and household plastic products, progressing toward its ambition of becoming a Global Supplier.

Scheduled for completion and commencement of operations in October 2027, coinciding with Duy Tan’s 40th anniversary (1987-2027), the project is expected to create new growth opportunities, strengthen the company’s capabilities in serving international markets, and usher in its next phase of development driven by modernization, smart manufacturing, and sustainability.
