The electricity consumption across the country reached a new record of over 1 billion kWh per day on May 28, surpassing the 1 billion kWh mark for the first time in history, according to the Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
The strong increase in electricity consumption was blamed for intense heat waves in the last days of May.
Electricity consumption in the northern region alone has increased significantly but not surpassed the previous peak. It is forecast to continue rising, increasing the pressure on power supply during upcoming peak heat waves.
In order to ensure electricity supply for 2024 and following years as directed by the Prime Minister, the EVN and related units have been taking a series of measures to optimize the operation of the electricity system and market, increase import of electricity, and encourage customers to use electricity efficiently and economically.
The EVN has also carried out solutions to accelerate investment and construction of key electricity projects, including the 500 kV national transmission line, circuit 3, with total length of 519km, running from Quang Trach district in central Quang Binh province to Pho Noi in northern Hung Yen province.
