Global logistics giant pledges to transform Da Nang into a regional transshipment hub

Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Hung held a working session with Mr. Vincent Clerc, Global CEO of Maersk (Denmark) on April 25, during the latter's visit for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Lien Chieu Container Port project, according to a report from  the Government News.

During the meeting, Mr. Clerc emphasized that the Lien Chieu Port project serves as a testament to Maersk's long-term cooperation and investment commitment in both Da Nang and Vietnam. The group pledged to utilize cutting-edge technology and international best practices to develop Lien Chieu into a green, smart, and modern port.

With the Lien Chieu Port project, we are not just building a terminal; we aim to build a green and modern logistics ecosystem. Our goal is to complete the necessary components to welcome the first vessels within the next 30 months, Mr. Clerc said.

He also committed to leveraging Maersk’s global experience in managing ports integrated with Free Trade Zones (FTZ), such as Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Malaysia. This aligns with Da Nang's strategic direction to develop a large-scale FTZ adjacent to Lien Chieu Port, contributing to the long-term growth of Central Vietnam.

"We hope to bring that expertise to help Da Nang become a leading regional transshipment and logistics hub," he added.

))Furthermore, Maersk reaffirmed its plans to continue expanding investments in integrated logistics and warehousing. This will form a synchronized ecosystem that connects Maersk's global customer network with Vietnam's production and supply chains, helping Vietnamese goods reach key international markets more efficiently.

The Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee emphasized that the Lien Chieu Port is a key city project and a strategic infrastructure work that plays a vital role in Da Nang’s socio-economic development.

Regarding the Free Trade Zone (FTZ), Mr. Hung stated that the city is actively collaborating with central ministries and agencies to finalize the institutional and legal frameworks.

He noted that this is a pioneering and breakthrough model for Vietnam. The synergy between the FTZ and Lien Chieu Port is expected to create new momentum and strength, enabling Da Nang to achieve a major breakthrough in the coming years.
