Government members basically agreed with the investment policy of the North-South high-speed railway project, with a total length of 1,541 km, during their discussion at the Government’s regular law-building meeting held on July 24.
They said construction of the railway is in line with global trend and will serve transportation of passengers and cargo with the aim of promoting economic growth.
Chairing the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted the need to build mechanism and policies to mobilize different capital sources for the project, including central and local funds, loans, bonds, and corporate funds.
The railway will have a speed limit of about 320 kph, with total investment capital estimated at some $58.71 billion.
It will run across 20 provinces and cities.
Construction is expected to start before 2030 and complete by 2035.
