GDP growth came in at 6.42 per cent in the first half of 2022, with the positive result forecast to continue over the closing months of the year.
First-quarter growth was 5.05 per cent, followed by 7.72 per cent in the second. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries posted growth of 2.76 per cent, industry and construction 7.7 per cent, and service 6.6 per cent.
Three scenarios have been put forward for GDP growth in the second half.
High level: If growth matches the 7.72 per cent recorded in the second quarter, the annual figure will exceed 7 per cent.
Average: If it is the same as in the first half, at 6.42 per cent, GDP for the year as a whole will increase 6.42 per cent.
Low level: If it is the same as in the first quarter, at 5.05 per cent, annual growth will reach 5.71 per cent.
A host of factors will affect GDP growth over the second half of the year, including the economic recovery and support package, which notably features 2 per cent in interest rate support costing VND20 trillion ($857.3 million).
Another is that investment from the State budget will probably increase in the closing months of the year and contribute to growth. Psychology is also a factor, with confidence being expressed in the VND remaining basically stable as inflation is controlled.
