The new tunnel will facilitate traffic at the intersection of Co Linh Road and the access road to Vinh Tuy Bridge.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned relevant bodies to outline a plan for the construction of an underground tunnel at the intersection of Co Linh Road and the access road leading to Vinh Tuy Bridge in Long Bien district to reduce traffic congestion once the bridge’s second phase is opened to traffic.

The project is expected to cost VND500-700 billion ($21-29 million) and will be implemented in the 2023-2024 period.

The tunnel will have a similar design and function to the Le Van Luong, Trung Hoa, and Thanh Xuan tunnels in the capital.

The 500 meter, two-way tunnel has four lanes.

Regarding the Vinh Tuy Bridge project in the second phase, a representative from the Management Board of Traffic Investment Projects in Hanoi said that up to 95 per cent of the project has been completed.

It will open to traffic in October.
