Thanh Xuân -

Capital targets building 1.25 million sq m of social housing in the 2021-2030 period.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has issued a decision approving an updated list of housing and urban construction projects under the city’s housing development plans in the 2021-2025 period.

Regarding the construction of commercial housing and urban areas, city authorities approved and updated 12 projects, including eight ongoing projects expected to be completed in the 2021-2025 period; three projects expected to be completed after 2025; and one project currently completing investment procedures.

City leaders also approved and updated three social housing projects, all in Hoang Mai district. Projects designed to accommodate 562, 552, and 937 housing units are scheduled to be completed in 2024, 2027, and in the 2026-2027 period, respectively.

According to the municipal People’s Committee, Hanoi is currently home to ten industrial parks (IPs) covering a total area of over 1,300 ha. There have been four social housing projects developed for workers at these IPs, part of which has been put into use. However, it has been reported that the construction of residential areas for IP workers remains slow and far from satisfies actual demand.

In its approved housing development program for the 2021-2030 period, Hanoi targets building 1.25 million sq m of social housing units.
