Science, technology, innovation, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution are having an increasingly profound and multifaceted impact on countries, according to Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
“This presents both opportunities and challenges for the city and other localities. On the one hand, it allows for the enhancement of technological capabilities, production capacity, and the acceleration of a growth model based on science, technology, and innovation. On the other, it poses challenges in addressing employment issues, inequality, and wealth disparity.”
Mr. Hoan made these remarks at the 2024 Policy Dialogue Program, themed “Creating Momentum for Sustainable Growth: Optimizing the Economy, Technology, and Energy,” held on September 18. This was the first event of its kind, jointly organized by the southern city and the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF).
The event featured two main discussion sessions. The first focused on optimizing the economic ecosystem, covering the development of logistics and supply chains, human resources, and administrative procedure reforms in investment and taxation. The second addressed driving future sustainability, concentrating on alternative energy solutions, smart technology, and promoting reduced emissions in the aviation sector.
“Ho Chi Minh City, with its dynamic, innovative tradition and breakthrough thinking, is constantly striving to be the nation’s economic locomotive, financial center, and a bridge for economic connections with neighboring regions, especially the Southeast localities and the Mekong Delta," Mr. Hoan stated.
The city has issued an action plan for green growth for the period 2024-2030 to implement the national strategy for green growth aimed at sustainable development from 2021 to 2030.
Additionally, the city is developing orientations and policies to create momentum for sustainable growth, optimizing the economy, technology, and energy.
