HCMC named among top 10 Asian cities for street food lovers

Street food a way of life in Vietnam, Canadian magazine The Travel writes.

Ho Chi Minh City has been ranked second on a list of the top 10 Asian cities considered a dream for every street food lover by Canadian travel magazine The Travel.

“While most could dish out their banh mi (baguette sandwiches), chao muc (squid porridge), and xa xiu (barbecued pork) out of old-fashioned restaurants, plastic chairs and tables on the streets are where locals prefer to eat their meals,” the magazine said. “In fact, some stalls even specialize in Vietnamese coffee and pouring cold Saigon beer while belting out tunes on loudspeakers. Hop onto a Vespa and whizz through the many streets in Saigon for a street food experience unlike any other.”

The Indian city of Delhi topped the list, followed by Osaka in Japan, Seoul in South Korea, and Singapore.

Earlier, US travel magazine Fodor’s Travel named Ho Chi Minh City among the leading destinations for tourists in 2023.

The city welcomed 30 million domestic and foreign visitors last year, double the figure in 2021.
