HCMC planning six transport projects costing $4.2bln

Xuân Nghi -

Projects to widen and upgrade existing roads under the BOT model.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed six projects to widen and upgrade existing roads under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model at a total estimated cost of VND100 trillion ($4.27 billion).

They include upgrades to the 9.6-km An Lac - Long An section of National Highway No. 1, a 9.1-km section of National Highway No. 22, and a 5.8-km section of National Highway No. 13.

Three other projects will lengthen a road connected to Ring Road No. 3, widen a 26.8-km road from Au Co Street to the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park, and upgrade a 5.8-km road running parallel to National Highway No. 50.

The Department has proposed that the Ministry of Transport allow the city to mobilize funds from the private sector to implement the projects under the BOT model.

Last December, the city’s People’s Committee proposed the government build a pilot mechanism and policy to create growth drivers for the southern economic hub.
