Ho Chi Minh City plans to allocate approximately VND2,575 billion ($98.5 million) for compensation and site clearance to develop the city's section of the North-South High-Speed Rail project.

The initiative requires the acquisition of roughly 110 ha for the 13.5-km stretch of the projected railway passing through the city.

According to the City People's Committee, the project's footprint is divided among three main components: the nearly 13.5-km rail line itself (32.2 ha), the planned Thu Thiem Station (17.3 ha), and the Long Truong Depot (60.5 ha), none of which has been acquired yet. The proposed route will traverse the wards of An Khanh, Binh Trung, Long Truong, and Long Phuoc, largely following the corridor of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.

While the section from the An Phu interchange to Ring Road 2 has already been cleared, the segment between Ring Road 2 and Ring Road 3 falls within a planned 40-meter-wide corridor containing both vacant land and existing houses that still requires acquisition.

From Ring Road 3 to the city’s border at the Dong Nai River, the rail line will run parallel to the expressway within a planned 140-m corridor, with a 30-m strip specifically designated for the high-speed rail. This final section consists mainly of vacant land that has also not yet been cleared.

To support the approximately 200 households impacted by the project, the city has prepared a comprehensive resettlement plan.
