Ho Chi Minh City is expected to post gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 5.81 per cent year-on-year in 2023, Chairwoman of the city’s People’s Council Nguyen Thi Le told its 13th meeting, which opened on December 6.
In her address to the meeting, Ms. Le said the city fulfilled and exceeded 13 targets set for the year. Many economic fields saw positive growth, while the implementation of a host of mid-term public investment projects in the 2021-2025 period were accelerated.
Total retail sales of goods and services rose 10.8 per cent compared to 2022 and total tourism revenue surged 22 per cent. The number of international tourists visiting the city increased 44.3 per cent.
However, she added, difficulties and challenges are forecast to continue facing the city in 2024, and measures are needed to create breakthroughs in socio-economic development.
