Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son held a working session with Mr. Brian G. Gonzalez, Executive Director of the US’s Intel Corporation, on the morning of January 30 at the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET)’s office.
Welcoming Mr. Gonzalez’s visit and cooperation with the Ministry, Minister Son said that at the end of 2022, during his working visit to the US, he and the accompanying MoET delegation held an exchange with the Intel Corporation. From these discussions, the Ministry and Intel signed an MoU on digital education transformation in 2023.
Recapping key cooperative points in the MoU, Minister Son emphasized that the January 30 meeting aims to realize its contents, wherein both parties need to implement specific actions in areas concerning digital transformation, training, the research and development of semiconductor chips, and AI in Vietnam. According to the Minister, these are areas of strength for Intel, and successful implementation would benefit both sides.
Expressing his delight in working with Minister Son and MoET representatives, Mr. Gonzalez said Intel hopes to identify areas and content for cooperation to boost links between Intel and Vietnam in digital transformation, innovation, and skills development for the younger generation.
Providing an overview of Intel’s digital transformation, particularly its AI training program, he noted that Intel’s program not only focuses on AI technology skills but also fosters ethics and responsibility in AI for the younger generation.
Mr. Gonzalez also expressed a desire for the Ministry to help expand the training program to many universities. “We hope this will not only be Intel’s program but also Vietnam’s program,” he said.
Responding to Minister Son’s questions about whether Intel’s enterprises are willing to facilitate internships and employment opportunities for Vietnamese students alongside the training program, he affirmed that Intel is willing to cooperate to the extent Vietnam wishes.
In agreement with the cooperative ideas and vision of Intel in Vietnam, Minister Son proposed that it work specifically with a group of Vietnamese universities in technology and engineering through the Higher Education Department to implement specific ideas and visions.
During the visit by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the US in September 2023, the MoET and Intel signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the digital transformation program in education. Under the memorandum, both sides agreed to support building a sustainable education system by expanding digital readiness and accessing smart classroom solutions for school administrators, teachers, and students to achieve optimal learning outcomes.
