Many investors have expressed an interest in investing in expansions to the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
They include a consortium of Cienco, Coteccons, and Thuan Viet; the Deo Ca Group; and the Chinese Port Construction Group.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong section, with a total length of 39.8 km, opened to traffic in 2010. It has four lanes and a speed limit of 120 km/h, and passes through the southern city and the Mekong Delta’s Long An and Tien Giang provinces.
The 51.1-km Trung Luong - My Thuan section, meanwhile, opened to traffic in April 2022 and has four lanes.
Due to the huge volume of traffic, however, congestion is a regular occurrence along the section.
Surveys show that the number of vehicles travelling on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong section has increased 35 per cent since it was put into operation, equivalent to 52,000 cars each day. An average of 40,000 cars travel on the Trung Luong - My Thuan section daily.
The MoT recently sent an investment policy on expanding the expressway to the Prime Minister for consideration.
