Five investors from Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam have filed bids to build the Nghi Son LNG-fired power complex in north-central Thanh Hoa province, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
They include a joint venture between Japan’s JERA Co Inc. and Vietnam’s Sovico Group; a consortium of the Korea Southern Power Company (KOSPO), the Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), the Daewoo Engineering & Construction Group (Daewoo E&C), and the Anh Phat Construction and Trading Investment JSC (APT); Thailand’s Gulf Energy Development Public Co Ltd; South Korea’s SK E&s Co Ltd; and a joint venture between the Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation (PV Power) and the T&T Group JSC (T&T Group).
Covering 68 ha at the Nghi Son Economic Zone, the project will include a 1,500 MW LNG power plant, an LNG port, and a 1-km-long wave barrier, along with supporting infrastructure for the port.
Total investment capital is estimated at over VND58 trillion ($2.4 billion).
Thanh Hoa is set to select an investor for the project in the second quarter of this year.
Commercial operations are scheduled to begin prior to 2030.
