Japan is considered a key tourist market for central Da Nang city after a long period of disruption caused by Covid-19, according to Deputy Director of the Da Nang City Department of Tourism Nguyen Xuan Binh.

In 2019, prior to Covid-19, the number of Japanese tourists to Da Nang reached over 183,000, up nearly 200 per cent compared to 2015, Mr. Binh told a conference on July 14 on potential cooperation between Da Nang and Japan.

After a long period of disruption from Covid-19, the opening policies of Vietnam and Japan have met travel and trade exchange demand on both sides and created the conditions to promote tourism between localities in the two countries, including Da Nang, he added.

The number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Japan has also increased. In 2022, an estimated 284,000 Vietnamese visited Japan, then, in the first five months of this year, Japan welcomed 262,100 Vietnamese tourists, according to Deputy Chief Representative of the Japan National Tourism Organization (NJTO), Uchida Shusuke.

Trade between Japan and Da Nang reached $730 million last year.
