Japan’s Sakai city has expressed its willingness to assist Da Nang city in its pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2050, offering its expertise and experience in carbon reduction.
The Japanese city also wish to expand cooperation with Vietnam's central city in investment, trade, and tourism.
During talks on November 11 with a delegation from Da Nang led by Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, Mr. Le Quang Nam, Sakai Vice Mayor Tazo Takamasa stated that his city is prepared to share its knowledge and support Da Nang in achieving its carbon neutrality goals. He also expressed the city's desire to strengthen collaboration with Da Nang in investment, trade, and tourism.
Mr. Nam suggested that Sakai expedite the implementation of a carbon-neutral city project in Da Nang and stressed that Vietnam's central city looks forward to cooperation with Sakai in urban planning, management, and transportation. Leaders of both cities agreed to explore the establishment of a direct flight route between the two cities to further boost cooperation and development.
On this occasion, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Sakai Environment Bureau signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a project supporting the establishment of a carbon-neutral city in Da Nang.
Under the strategic and friendly partnership between Vietnam and Japan, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Sakai Environment Bureau will strive to establish a mutually beneficial cooperative relationship in environmental protection. They aim to build a carbon-neutral city and explore the possibility of developing joint credit mechanism (JCM) projects that comply with international agreements that each country had signed.
According to Mr. Nam, Da Nang is currently implementing a plan to build a "Green City" and is actively working towards its environmental protection goals.
Next year, Da Nang is scheduled to host the Forum of Friendship and Cooperation Cities 2025 from January 16-18, and the Vietnam-Japan Festival in July.
