Lao Cai to introduce solutions to boost trade with China

Song Hoàng -

Difficulties and shortcomings in bilateral trade to be addressed to facilitate cross-border trade.

The Lao Cai Provincial People’s Committee has directed relevant agencies and units to seriously implement a number of solutions to bolster trade stability and growth with China.

People’s Committee Chairman Pham Xuan Truong asked the Department of Trade and Industry to strengthen meetings with agencies and units from China’s Yunnan province to quickly address difficulties and shortcomings in bilateral trade and facilitate cross-border trade.

The department is also required to actively coordinate with relevant agencies to regularly update information on China’s application of protective measures and technical barriers on Vietnam’s agriculture, forestry and fisheries products in order to boost awareness among domestic businesses.

It should also maintain regular contact with the Vietnam Trade Office in Kunming to learn about border trade mechanisms and policies as well as the goods market in Yunnan, to timely inform Vietnamese businesses and satisfy their production and business needs.

Further support is also needed for Vietnamese and Chinese businesses to increase links and expand opportunities for business and investment cooperation in logistics to promote exports and imports.

Provincial authorities requested that the Department of Planning and Investment work with relevant bodies to increase investment promotion, while the Department of Transport is to enhance transportation capacity in the road and railway network.

Yunnan borders four provinces in Vietnam: Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Lai Chau, and Dien Bien. It is also a key point in the economic corridor connecting Kunming with Hanoi, Hai Phong, Lao Cai, and Quang Ninh.
