Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) has recognised five Vietnamese organisations and companies authorised to issue Halal certificates, out of 96 certification bodies from 49 countries worldwide, according to Mr. Phung Van Thanh, Commercial Counsellor at the Vietnam Trade Office in Malaysia.
Halal certification serves as a mandatory “passport” for consumer products targeting Malaysia’s Muslim market. The Halal label confirms that food products are produced, processed and distributed in compliance with strict Islamic principles and requirements. JAKIM’s recognition allows approved certification bodies to authorise the use of Halal labels on product packaging and display certification signs at production facilities.
As of August 21, 2026, the five recognised Vietnamese bodies were the Halal Certification Agency of Vietnam (HCA), Halal Vietnam Co., Ltd. (HVN), Vietnam National Halal Co., Ltd. (VNH), Vietnam Halal Inspection and Certification Company (VINAHIC), and Global Halal Certification Co., Ltd. (GHC). They are headquartered in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with branches in Can Tho.
With five recognised bodies, Vietnam ranks third globally by the number of JAKIM-approved Halal certification organisations, behind Australia and Japan.
The recognition is expected to make it easier for Vietnamese businesses to export Halal-certified products and services to Malaysia, opening up greater access to the country’s Muslim consumer market.
Obtaining JAKIM Halal certification requires strict compliance throughout the entire supply chain, from the selection of raw materials and processing to storage, packaging, transportation and distribution.
