McDonald’s Vietnam has received a Golden Dragon Award for six consecutive years for its impressive achievements on the journey towards a green economy and sustainable development, closely linked with technology to optimize customer service.

Towards a green and sustainable economy

McDonald’s consistently earns and maintains customer trust through its quality service and diverse menus tailored to local preferences. It is recognized for its initiatives aimed at reducing plastic waste, transitioning towards packaging materials that are more environmentally-friendly and switching toy products to more sustainable materials.

Since 2018, McDonald’s has reduced the amount of pure plastic in Happy Meal toys by 47.8 per cent. Moreover, the plastic in Happy Meal toys has been replaced with more sustainable materials worldwide. This initiative aligns with the transition in product packaging to sustainable materials, such as replacing plastic cups with paper cups.

In pursuit of a green economy, McDonald’s envisions packaging and materials that do not become environmental waste. Its packaging, toy, and waste management strategies contribute to maintaining cleanliness within communities, safeguarding the planet for future generations and supporting the long-term sustainability of business operations.

The company is committed to environmental stewardship. To date, it has established a foundation on the journey to sustainable forest protection and sourcing by achieving certifications such as RSPO certification - an independent supply chain certification demonstrating sustainable and ethical palm oil sourcing, and Paper & Packaging Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council for the product journey of packaging materials.

The company also secured Rainforest Alliance Certified Coffee certification, ensuring biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices, and consumer behavior in coffee products.

Sustainable development and technology go hand-in-hand

McDonald’s is recognized as a pioneering fast-food chain leveraging advanced technology in operations and management. It has employed technology for customer experience and online sales for many years.

As a leading fast-food brand in technological adoption, McDonald’s continues to steer towards the future experience. This is McDonald’s global long-term strategy, utilizing groundbreaking technologies to enhance restaurant operations and elevate customer service standards.
