The Ministry of Transport has submitted an investment policy to the Government for the second time, seeking approval to upgrade and expand three national highways in the Mekong Delta with a total investment capital estimated at nearly VND9.3 trillion (approximately $385 million).
The three national highways, namely 53, 62, and 91B, connect several regions, passing through Can Tho City and the provinces of Long An, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Bac Lieu.
Route 53 traverses Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces, Route 62 goes through Long An, and Route 91B, also known as the Southern Hau River route, passes through Can Tho City, and Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Bac Lieu provinces.
According to the Ministry of Transport's submission, these highways are designed to adapt to climate change in the Mekong Delta and will adhere to the technical standards of a plain road, grade III, with a design speed of 80 km/h.

The projects have a total investment capital estimated at nearly VND9.3 trillion, equivalent to $385 million, with $262 million to be funded by the World Bank's loan, while the Vietnamese Government will provide a reciprocal capital of VND2.975 trillion (over $117 million).
