Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the investor in Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province, has proposed that the Ministry of Transport agree to completion of a contract package to build the airport’s passenger terminal being extended by six months.
Package No. 5.10 includes design, construction, and equipment installation at the terminal, with estimated investment of over VND35.2 trillion ($1.49 billion). This is the biggest package in the first phase of the project.
The package was initially scheduled for completion within 33 months, including weekends, holidays, and the Tet (Lunar New Year).
The ACV explained that it needs more time to find capable and experienced contractors for construction.
If the proposal is approved, construction of the package will be 39 months.
Long Thanh International Airport has total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($14.6 billion), with construction divided into three phases.
In the first phase, a runway and one passenger terminal along with other supporting facilities will be built to serve 25 million passengers and handle 1.2 million tons of cargo each year.
The project began in 2021. Once fully completed by 2050, the airport will be able to serve 100 million passengers and handle 5 million tons of cargo annually.
