Moscow welcomed 42,200 Vietnamese arrivals in 2025, representing a 17 percent increase compared to the previous year, according to data from local tourism authorities. During the first half of 2026, the number of Vietnamese arrivals in Moscow reached approximately 21,000, up 7 percent year-on-year.
This upward trend demonstrates sustained interest among Vietnamese travelers in Moscow amid increasingly favorable conditions regarding visas, flight connectivity, and hospitality services.
A key factor expected to boost Vietnamese tourist arrivals is Russia’s new visa exemption policy.
Under regulations effective from October 15, 2026 to October 15, 2027, Vietnamese citizens holding ordinary passports can enter Russia without a visa for stays of up to 30 days per entry. The policy covers travel, family visits, business trips, and specific permitted activities.
The policy simplifies entry procedures and facilitates itinerary design, particularly for independent travelers and individuals seeking flexible travel schedules.
Concurrently, the expanding flight network between Vietnam and Moscow enables travel agencies to develop new products and reach broader client segments.
Ms. Duong Thanh Hang from Sun Smile Travel Vietnam, an agency specializing in Russian tours, noted that expanding direct flights and streamlining visa procedures offer substantial benefits to both operators and travelers.
According to her, while traditional tour groups plan trips six months to a year in advance, the new policy empowers independent travelers and younger demographics to organize self-directed trips.
“Travelers can independently compare airfares, book accommodation via online platforms, and select personalized itineraries,” she added.
Sun Smile Travel Vietnam projects a sharp surge in Vietnamese arrivals in Moscow during the upcoming summer travel season as visa flexibilities and enhanced air connectivity take full effect.
Digital services and tourism infrastructure offer competitive edge
Beyond entry policies, travel operators praise Moscow’s destination infrastructure and Vietnamese-language information accessibility.
Moscow launched a Vietnamese version of its official tourism portal, Discover Moscow, detailing attractions, sightseeing routes, cultural events, and seasonal recommendations.
The platform assists travelers in researching destinations and planning itineraries independently, while enabling travel agencies to source data for product development.
Following a field survey in Moscow, Ms. Hong Hoa from TransViet Travel, highlighted the city’s strong capabilities to grow its market share of Vietnamese visitors.
According to her, Moscow possesses diverse accommodation options ranging from 3-star and 4-star hotels to luxury properties, alongside advanced public transport and international visitor services.
In addition to infrastructure strengths, Moscow appeals to travelers through its deep historical legacy, iconic architectural landmarks, and distinct cultural heritage.
TransViet Travel’s representative noted that these assets allow operators to develop varied product lines, including heritage and historical tours, immersive cultural experiences, and specialized programs for in-depth exploration.
With relaxed visa requirements, improved flight connectivity, and diversified service offerings, Moscow stands well-positioned to expand its market share among Vietnamese travelers while providing operators a foundation to diversify packaged and independent travel offerings.
