The People’s Committee of Ninh Binh province in northern Vietnam has proposed conducting a feasibility study for a projected international airport in the province.

The plan will be submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration to include the project in Vietnam’s national airport development master plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050.

The proposed airport, planned to cover about 720 hectares in Liem Tuyen commune, will be built to ICAO 4E standards, enabling it to handle large aircraft such as the Boeing 787, Boeing 777, and Airbus A350. In its first phase, it is expected to serve 10 million passengers annually.

Strategically located, the proposed airport will be 80 km far from Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, 85 km from Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong, 85 km from Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa, and 63 km from Gia Binh Airport in Bac Ninh, which is still under construction. It will also be situated near the planned North–South high-speed railway, further enhancing regional connectivity.
