Norwegian enterprises seeking renewable energy development opportunities

Mộc Minh -

Vietnam targets having 80 per cent of energy supply from renewables by 2050.

Many domestic and global energy companies, including 15 Norwegian companies, attended a workshop in Hanoi on September 13 to seek cooperative opportunities.

The “Energy Transition: Norway - Vietnam Business Partnership” workshop attracted Norwegian companies such as Equinor, DNV, Mainstream, VARD, Scatec, NOV, and Sperton.

It offered them an opportunity to exchange expertise with local counterparts and explore cooperative possibilities.

Ngo Thuy Quynh, Deputy Head of the Department of Oil, Gas, and Coal at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said the National Power Development Plan 8 (PDP 8) promotes equal energy transition, with a target of increasing the rate of renewable energy to 15-20 per cent of total primary energy by 2030 and 80-85 per cent by 2050.

Deputy Norwegian Ambassador Mette Møglestue said Norway and Vietnam share a determination to become countries with low carbon emissions by 2050.

In 2020, Norway was one of the first countries to submit an enhanced emissions reduction target under the Paris Agreement, she added. It has increased its ambition even further, with a new target to reduce emissions by at least 55 per cent by 2030.
