The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal and approval of adjustments to the detailed master plan for southern An Giang province's Phu Quoc International Airport for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
The proposed adjustments include additional and expanded infrastructure to meet operational requirements and prepare for the APEC 2027 summit, which Vietnam will host.
Under the proposal, the aircraft apron in front of Terminal 2 will be expanded to accommodate around 42 aircraft positions. A new apron is also planned between the existing apron in front of Terminal 1 and the apron serving the VIP and general aviation terminal, providing approximately 45 additional positions.
Land will continue to be reserved through 2050 for further apron expansion when required.
Among the proposed aviation service facilities is an elevated connecting corridor between Terminals 1 and 2, allowing direct connectivity between the two passenger terminals and facilitating passenger transfers.
The airport’s total land-use requirement under the 2021-2030 plan, with a vision to 2050, is estimated at more than 1,049 hectares.
Under the existing master plan, Phu Quoc International Airport is scheduled to reach ICAO Code 4E standards during 2021-2030, with a designed capacity of approximately 10 million passengers and 25,000 tonnes of cargo annually.
