Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, leading a central government delegation, on August 2 inspected the progress of several key works and projects serving the 2027 APEC Summit in southern An Giang province's Phu Quoc Special Zone.
Phu Quoc has been selected as the host island for the APEC Economic Leaders' Week 2027.
During the working visit, the delegation inspected major projects including the Phu Quoc International Airport, Provincial Road DT 975, and Section 1 of the urban railway line. These projects are intended not only to serve APEC 2027 but also to complete the transportation infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for the long-term development of the island.
tOn this occasion, the delegation also attended the launch of the Social Housing Development Program in the An Thoi Urban Area. With a target of building 50,000 social housing and rental units, this program aims to settle the housing needs of workers and low-income families while simultaneously boosting the housing supply to keep pace with the rapid growth of tourism and services on the island.A representative of the developer, Sun Group, stated that the program will develop approximately 50,000 social and rental housing units with a total estimated investment of VND40 trillion ($1.52 billion). Spanning about 55 ha, the project is planned with a system of green corridors running in both North-South and East-West directions.
The Permanent Deputy Prime Minister directed relevant parties to proactively resolve difficulties and obstacles to ensure projects are completed on schedule. This will contribute to the thorough preparation for the APEC Summit and create a driving force for the sustainable development of Phu Quoc in the coming years.
