At a recent session, the People's Council of An Giang province in the Mekong Delta approved the investment policy for the first segment of the urban rail line project in the province's Phu Quoc island.
The project is part of the planned Phu Quoc urban railway line, which aims to provide a high-quality public transportation system with large capacity, stability, safety, and environmental friendliness, meeting the travel needs of residents along the route and within the project's impact area.
With total investment of nearly VND9 trillion ($342 million), the project will be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The state budget will contribute up to 70 per cent, equivalent to over VND6.2 trillion ($238 million), while the remaining funds will be arranged by the investor.
Once completed, the project will enhance the connectivity of modern infrastructure, serve the public transportation needs of residents and tourists, attract investment, contribute to the development of the service-commerce-tourism sector, and increase state budget revenue.
The project will also create numerous jobs for locals, ensure safe travel, reduce traffic accidents, minimize emissions, protect the environment, promote sustainable development, and gradually concretize the green urban orientation for the Phu Quoc special zone.
Following the merger, An Giang province has focused resources on developing transportation infrastructure, identifying it as a crucial breakthrough to boost economic development.
