PM affirms support for Samsung

Vietnamese Government keen to continue its support in South Korean giant’s future investments.

At his meeting with Mr. Choi Joo Ho, President of the Samsung Vietnam Complex, on January 20, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the government will support the company to invest further in Vietnam.

He also expressed his appreciation of Samsung considering Vietnam to be a global base and adopting a serious, long-term investment strategy. Among FDI projects, Samsung’s regularly see rapid implementation in Vietnam and occupy a large proportion of its global revenue and profit. The acceleration of the construction of its largest research and development (R&D) center in Southeast Asia, in Hanoi, helps promote activities to support Vietnamese businesses and constantly increases the localization rate.

The Prime Minister also mentioned his hope that there will soon be Vietnamese people joining the senior leadership team at the Samsung Complex as well as at Samsung’s factories and facilities. He suggested that it introduce a training strategy for this to eventuate.

Mr. Choi Joo Ho, meanwhile, said he appreciates the effective direction and administration from the government, the results of its pandemic prevention work, and the country’s socio-economic development in 2021.

He also spoke of the progress of Samsung’s projects in Vietnam, confirmed that the R&D center would be opened shortly, and offered a number of suggestions and recommendations.

The Prime Minister acknowledged Samsung’s comments and assigned relevant agencies to research and report to the government on appropriate, harmonious solutions, and to expeditiously deal with legitimate and reasonable proposals and recommendations.

The two sides believe that their cooperation will continue to be successful in 2022 and subsequent years.
