The Prime Minister has requested relevant ministries, agencies and localities to urgently take measures to respond to Prapiroon typhoon and flooding.
The PM’s Dispatch No. 70/CD-TTg, signed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang on July 21, requires ministers and provincial and city chairpersons to continue directing and promptly implementing effective measures to ensure the safety of lives and minimizing property damage for residents.
They were instructed to closely monitor the development of the typhoon and flooding to have proactive and timely response.
The typhoon was forecast to bring heavy rains to the northern region on July 23-24 with rainfall of up to 300mm.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, by 4 am on July 23, the eye of the storm was off the coast of northern localities from Quang Ninh to Hai Phong.
The strongest wind speeds near the storm's center were 62-88 kph, and the typhoon is moving northwest at a speed of 10 kph.
