Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has stressed that ensuring a reliable electricity supply is an urgent priority and a prerequisite for achieving the country’s socio-economic development targets in 2026.
PM Hung made the statement while chairing a meeting with ministries and relevant agencies in Hanoi on October 12 to discuss electricity supply security in the coming years through 2030 and proposed adjustments to the Eighth National Power Development Plan, according to the Government Portal.
The PM underscored the need to safeguard national energy security and ensure sufficient electricity.
He said reliable power supplies were essential to fulfilling the country’s development objectives in 2026, which would lay the groundwork for accelerating growth in 2027 and achieving the goals set for the entire five-year term.
The government and relevant ministries, particularly the Ministry of Industry and Trade, must demonstrate strong determination and make necessary adjustments to the power development plan to meet electricity demand from an economy targeting double-digit growth. Power supply must also accommodate the development of high-tech projects, especially data centres.
PM Hung directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to work with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant agencies to review project implementation with State-owned corporations, enterprises and local authorities.
He stressed that any revisions must ensure project feasibility, compliance with regulations, construction quality and the timely completion and commissioning of power projects.
