Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed the Coordinating Council for the Southeast Region to focus on three strategic breakthroughs on institutions, infrastructure, and human resources to promote regional connectivity and growth, the Government News has reported.
Chairing a conference to debut the Coordinating Council, held in Ho Chi Minh City on July 18, Prime Minister Chinh also sought special mechanisms, institutions, and policies to develop the region, including the establishment of a fund for regional infrastructure development.
Attention should also be paid to handling issues relating to traffic congestion, the environment, and housing, he said.
The region has contributed more than 30 per cent of the country’s GDP over the past year, 45 per cent of State budget collections, and over 32 per cent of total export revenue.
Under a Politburo resolution and government action program, the southern region is expected to become a dynamic and fast-growing area, a hub of science and technology and innovation, industry, and logistics, and an international financial center with a high degree of competitiveness in the region. It will also strive to lead in renewing growth models and digital transformation.
