Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested relevant ministries, agencies and localities to strive to complete 600 km of expressways for the Mekong Delta region by 2025 and 1,200 km by 2030, the Government News has reported.  

The Government leader made the order while chairing a conference in Can Tho city on October 16 to seek solutions to tackle difficulties and obstacles facing infrastructure projects in the Mekong Delta region to accelerate their progress.

PM Chinh particularly asked for measures to deal with three main issues that still face many difficulties, including site clearance, relocation of high-voltage power lines and supply of construction materials.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the Mekong Delta region is hosting nine key national transport projects with a combined investment of about VND106 trillion ($4.25 billion). Currently, eight projects are under construction, while the remaining, the My An-Cao Lanh expressway, is having its procedures finalized and expected to be launched in early 2025.

Of the eight ongoing projects, six are scheduled to complete in 2025, and the other two are expected to finish in 2026 and 2027.
