Vietnam put 395km of expressways into operation during the first nine months of 2026, bringing the total length of main expressway routes open to traffic or technically completed to 3,345km, the Ministry of Construction reported.

At its regular third-quarter press conference on October 15, the ministry said it had focused on implementing directives from the Government and the Prime Minister regarding nationally significant projects, key transport infrastructure and major railway developments.

During the period, the ministry advised the Government on issuing and implementing a resolution on the investment policy for the Vinh-Thanh Thuy Expressway project. It also helped submit the Government's investment proposal for Ring Road 5 in the Hanoi Capital Region to the National Assembly for approval.

Regarding major railway projects, the ministry established a steering committee to oversee development of the North-South high-speed railway project. The ministry completed a programme to introduce and select consulting contractors and agreed to directly appoint contractors for four packages to prepare feasibility study reports for the high-speed railway project.

For the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway project, the ministry is urging relevant agencies to accelerate procedures for implementing Component Project 2.

It is also directing and guiding project investors in coordinating with local authorities on site clearance, compensation, support and resettlement for this railway project, as well as the Hanoi-Lang Son and Hai Phong-Ha Long-Mong Cai railway projects.

These efforts form part of Vietnam’s broader push to expand transport infrastructure, improve regional connectivity and advance major railway and road projects.
