Vietnam encourages and creates the necessary conditions for Japanese businesses to invest and cooperate in the country for sustainable development and mutual interest, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told visiting Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura Yasutoshi during their meeting in Hanoi on November 3, the Government News has reported.
Prime Minister Chinh proposed that Japan help Vietnamese enterprises engage more deeply in the global supply chain.
He suggested it also support Vietnam in promoting its green transition, digital transformation, and innovation, developing high technology and a semiconductor industry, and fostering the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical equipment sectors to serve public healthcare.
The Prime Minister also called on Japan to provide new-generation official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam to develop large-scale strategic infrastructure such as the North - South high-speed railway project.
Mr. Yasutoshi said Japan will work closely with Vietnam to promote cooperation in different areas such as science and technology transfer and human resources training, as well as boost cooperation at multilateral mechanisms, especially the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
He proposed the two sides focus on building and implementing “locomotive” projects such as semiconductor production, AI, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, and fisheries processing.
