Building on the company’s announcement of establishing an AI R&D center in 2025, the Hanoi R&D Center is now operational as a broader, multi-domain innovation hub. The center will initially focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and system-on-chip (SoC) development, with plans to expand into additional strategic areas such as automotive, Internet of Things (IoT), and other advanced technologies.

Advancing world-class semiconductor innovation in Vietnam

The center strengthens Qualcomm Technologies’ global R&D network by leveraging Vietnam’s fast-growing technology talent base and enabling closer collaboration with local partners.

Through this R&D Center, Qualcomm Technologies aims to build a world-class team in Vietnam, anchored in semiconductor development and expanding into software to support end-to-end technology innovation. Vietnamese engineers working at this R&D center will contribute to the design and development of Qualcomm Technologies’ latest and future technologies, working closely with global teams.

Qualcomm Technologies’ continued investment in R&D aligns closely with Vietnam’s priorities in digital transformation, AI adoption, and advanced connectivity.

Through its leadership in 5G, cloud-to-edge AI, computing, and IoT, Qualcomm Technologies enables secure, scalable, and energy-efficient solutions across sectors such as smart cities, transportation, healthcare, and industrial automation.

“In the progress of building the semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam, we highly value the role and companionship of the world’s leading technology corporations, notably Qualcomm”, said Mr. Bui Hoang Phuong, Vice Minister of Science and Technology. He “commended Qualcomm’s practical contributions to Vietnam in recent years”, namely strategic cooperation in 5G, AI, with Vietnamese tech ecosystems from start-up to leading companies.

“The official opening of our Hanoi R&D Center reflects our long-term investment in Vietnam and our confidence in the country’s growing role in the global technology landscape,” said Mr. Baaziz Achour, EVP and Chief Technology Officer, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “By strengthening our engineering presence on the ground, we are accelerating innovation while aligning our global technologies with local opportunities.”

“The center enables us to work more closely with local talent, academic institutions, and ecosystem partners to drive meaningful innovation,” said Mr. ST Liew, VP and President of Qualcomm Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies Asia-Pacific Pte. Ltd. “We are committed to supporting Vietnam’s ambition to move further up the global value chain through technology and innovation.”

A key role in strenthening Vietnam's broader tehnology ecosystem

Beyond advancing in-house innovation, the Hanoi R&D Center is expected to play a key role in strengthening Vietnam’s broader technology ecosystem.

Qualcomm Technologies will continue to collaborate with leading universities through research programs and initiatives such as its AI Residency program, while also supporting startups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and system integrators in developing globally competitive solutions built on Qualcomm Technologies platforms.

Over time, the Hanoi R&D Center is expected to contribute to Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem by supporting the development of a future-ready technology workforce and strengthening local innovation capacity.

Qualcomm Technologies will continue to collaborate with local universities and academic institutions to build talent pipelines aligned with national priorities.

The Center will also serve as a platform to attract and develop high-quality talent in semiconductor and software engineering, contributing to the growth of a world-class R&D capability in Vietnam.

By embedding advanced R&D capabilities locally, Qualcomm Technologies aims to contribute to Vietnam’s continued transition toward higher-value innovation and technology development, with solutions developed in Vietnam for both domestic and global markets.
