Northern Quang Ninh province welcomed 8.86 million tourists in the first half of this year, equal to 161 per cent of the figure in the same period last year, figures from the provincial Department of Tourism show.

International visitors totaled 658,000, a 15-fold increase year-on-year.

Total tourism revenue was VND16.660 trillion ($703 million).

Key source markets were China, South Korea, the US, India, France, the UK, Australia, Germany, Malaysia, and Canada.

The province plans to introduce 38 new tourism products this year in a bid to diversify its offerings to attract more holidaymakers, such as night cruises, sports tourism, entertainment and resort tourism, spiritual and cultural tourism, maritime tourism, and eco-tourism.

It has targeted welcoming 15 million tourists this year.
