Exports of seafood in the first half of September earned revenue of $363.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 5.6 per cent, figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs reveal.
The result brings the total export value of seafood this year as of September 15 to $6.15 billion, down 22 per cent year-on-year.
Exports of many fisheries products posted high growth in August and the first half of September, such as crab, lobster, mackerel, fish sauce, processed tuna, canned fish, processed pangasius, and dried shrimp. However, exports of some key products, such as white-legged shrimp, tra fish, tuna, tiger shrimp, squid, and frozen fish cakes were lower than in 2022, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Seafood export revenue in the first eight months of the year reached nearly $5.8 billion, a year-on-year decline of 25 per cent, figures from VASEP show.
The US was Vietnam’s largest seafood importer in August, with turnover of $165 million, up 4 per cent compared to 2022. This brings total seafood exports to the US to $1 billion in the first eight months of the year.
VASEP has forecast that total seafood export revenue is likely to reach $9.1-9.2 billion for 2023 as a whole.
