A second airport is expected to be built in the capital region by 2050 to ease the burden on Noi Bai International Airport, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
Construction matches Hanoi’s development orientations by 2030 with a vision towards 2045, and the national master plan for 2021-2030 with a vision towards 2050, MoT said.
The ministry will instruct relevant agencies to work on the location and planning criteria, and report the results to the Prime Minister for a decision.
It asked the Hanoi People’s Committee to soon specify the location for the second airport planning.
The capital region’s population is expected to triple by 2050, to 23 million. It therefore needs two international airports to meet needs and ensure aviation security and safety, according to local authorities.
