September seafood exports show signs of recovery

Seafood exports saw signs of recovery in September, with total revenue of $862 million, equal to the same period last year and $16 million higher than in August, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The figure brings total seafood export value in the first nine months of the year to $6.6 billion, down 22 per cent year-on-year.

Nine-month revenue includes nearly $1.4 billion of tra fish exports and $2.25 billion of shrimp exports.

The US and China have increased their demand for seafood products, resulting in growing exports to the two markets over the past two months. Exports to the US, the EU, and China rose 4-17 per cent year-on-year in September.

Export turnover in the first nine months to the three biggest importers of Vietnamese seafood products - the US, China, and Japan - all exceeded $1 billion.

Vietnam’s seafood export revenue is expected to hit $9.2-9.3 billion this year following the positive recovery being seen in the market.
