Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has decided to establish a special working group on the Long Thanh International Airport project in the first phase, to be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.
Deputy Prime Minister Ha will be assisted by two deputy heads - Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang and Chairman of the Committee for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises Nguyen Hoang Anh.
The group is responsible for coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies to help the Prime Minister direct and supervise ministries and agencies in dealing with important issues as well as tackling difficulties and obstacles in a timely manner to ensure project progress and quality.
It will also regularly examine the implementation of the project and proactively support the investor and relevant agencies in implementation.
The group is assigned to assess implementation on a monthly basis and identify and remedy any difficulties or obstacles in a timely manner or report them to the Prime Minister for consideration and remedy and to study and propose measures to deal with those relating to policies.
Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province has total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($14.6 billion), with construction divided into three phases.
In the first phase, a runway and a passenger terminal along with supporting facilities will be built to cater to 25 million passengers and handle 1.2 million tons of cargo each year.
The project got underway in 2021. Once fully completed by 2050, the airport will be able to cater to 100 million passengers and handle 5 million tons of cargo annually.
